A new website for Change Media Group: What We Changed & Why

If you’ve visited us online over the past couple of months, you may have noticed some changes. That’s because we got a new website! It’s been exciting, insightful, tedious, tremendous, and ultimately it’s a project we’re very proud of. With a large roster of clients, building a new website in addition to our other projects was a big undertaking, but we’re so glad we stuck with it! If you’re curious about where we started and why we made the change, read on:

In January of 2015, we officially rebranded. We donned our new name, Change Media Group, and rolled out a new website. We entered the year with ambitious intention, clear goals, and the determination to succeed as Change Media Group. We started with the basics and launched the website – a brief outline of the services we offer, an about page, and contact information. It didn’t cover everything we ultimately wanted it to be, but we were determined not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We didn’t have a team of developers or even a full time designer at that time, but we dove in, launched the the site, and it did the trick. This site served us for almost a full year, and what a whirlwind that year was!

We acquired many new clients through our website, received lots of positive feedback, and it provided a space for us to begin blogging more frequently – all awesome things! We brought on 3 additional full-time staff, ran a robust intern program, moved offices, honed in on our core services, and more. Big things were happening!

But as the months passed and our business developed and changed, we began to identify additional website needs. Our online presence needed to catch up with the progress we’d made as a company, and it was time to reevaluate.

We wanted our new site to display a more complete portfolio of past work and better highlight the awesome clients we work with. We needed to rework some of the language and messaging throughout the site, especially regarding the services we provide. And finally, we felt like the aesthetic of our first site didn’t align with our current visual preferences and emphasis on quality design. It was time for an upgrade!

AFTER:

Our new online home features more of our past work, now organized by sector. Check out our business, political, and non-profit projects on our portfolio pages. We added to our about page, including longer bios of our full-time staff. We added a library of case studies and resources that are free for you to download. As CMG’s Creative Director, Kalli Barrone has a hand in all things visual. She coordinates creative strategy and conceptualization, implements internal marketing efforts, and creates visual content for digital and print. She has a background in visual communications and holds degrees in graphic design and communication studies from the University of Michigan.
