Change Maker Diary: Mike O’Meara
What’s the first thing you did when you woke up this morning?
I like to check my email when I get up.
What’s one thing you never leave home without?
I always have my keys with me.
Describe one challenge of your day.
Not having enough hours in the day.
Describe one success of your day.
Hopefully giving my dog sufficient attention.
What projects have you worked on that your most proud of and why?
Working on state level supreme court campaigns, now and in 2014. So many voters don’t realize that they can decide who serves on the top court in our state. Over 30% of Democrats who show up to vote forget to finish their ballot and vote for court. I think they often forget about it because the President picks the US Supreme Court and that generates a lot of media attention that they don’t think impacts them – but the truth is that the Michigan Supreme Court is very influential and makes a lot of decisions that impact everyone’s lives in this state.
What is your favorite part of the day?
Getting ready in the morning. I can organize my thoughts, put together a game plan for the day. It’s the one organized part of my day that’s routine, and nearly unbreakable.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The people who work here are incredibly talented. It’s nice to be surrounded by different people from different backgrounds with very different skill sets that they’re so good at. With these talented skill sets, backgrounds, and communication skills you get incredibly productive teams. It makes it fun to work and makes all of us more creative.
