Change Maker Diaries: John Flynn
We’re happy to share another installment of the Change Maker Diaries–a series of interviews with our talented team members. This post features John Flynn, CMG’s Web Development and Design Specialist.
What was the first thing you did when you woke up this morning?
Panicked, because I was late, and then I relaxed once I got some coffee from QD, as I do pretty much every morning.
Love the Quality Dairy coffee, huh?
Yeah, I’m not really a Starbucks person.
What’s one thing that you never leave home without?
A multi-tool…besides the regular things like my phone, my wallet, and all of that.
What is a multi-tool?
It’s a leatherman, like a pocket knife that opens up like pliers. It has a whole bunch of tools that I usually end up needing when I least expect it.
Describe one challenge that you faced today, or this week.
I started to work with a brand new WordPress theme for one of our latest projects; it’s exciting but also a challenge. There’s definitely a learning curve any time you start using a new system for this type of work.
What’s one success you’ve had recently?
After diving into WordPress for several of our recent projects, I’ve become a lot more confident in web development overall, and I’m continuing to build on my design skills and learn new things every day.
What projects have you worked on that you’re most proud of, and why?
I’ve been working on the Equality Michigan website. Equality Michigan is a big organization in Michigan and I really believe in the causes that they’re a part of, so I’m definitely proud of where we’ve taken this project. I can’t reveal too much because we are currently awaiting the website launch and very excited for what’s to come!
What is your favorite part of the day? And your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the day is late in the afternoon around 4:30 or 5 o’clock when I’ve gotten a lot of tasks done for the day and I’m feeling accomplished. My favorite part of the job is learning new skillsets and doing good work for people and organizations with worthy causes.
