Change Maker Diaries: Carly Fox
We’re excited to highlight another talented team member in another chapter of our Change Maker Diaries! Today’s post features Carly Fox, our Visual Composer.
What is the first thing you did when you woke up this morning?
The first thing I do when I wake up is try to remember what my dream was about. I often have very interesting and vivid dreams that help me sort out problems in my life. Sometimes, I even have creative visions in my sleep!
What is one thing you never leave home without?
I never leave home without a snack, whether it’s a granola bar or a piece of chocolate. Yes, I’m a sweet tooth and I’m always hungry!
Describe one challenge that you’ve had today, or recently.
My computer’s running a little slow (it’s getting old!) and Illustrator takes awhile to open up. But nothing major! Also, I was going to head to a coffee shop to work today but at the pace it’s snowing here in Ann Arbor it looks like a blizzard outside (which is nice to look at but not to walk in!), so I decided not to.
Describe one success of the day.
Today, I worked on the CMG Holiday card design, which was a fun project to work on! I like designing cards/invitations because I can usually have a lot of creative control with them. I’d say it was a success since I was able to finish it pretty quickly!
What are some projects that you have worked on that you are most proud of, and why?
Recently, I got the chance to create an updated brand identity for the American Federation of Teachers-Michigan and implement it in their Forum magazine. I was proud of this piece because it was a challenge to fit in all of the information they wanted in a limited number of pages, and it was a pretty quick turnaround. It was also being sent to their 22,000 members, so that was pretty cool, and I think we got a lot of positive feedback about it. Lately, now that the election is over, I’ve been working mostly on internal pieces, lots of blog graphics, which is a nice change of pace. It’s also fun to see the graphics front and center on CMG’s blog!
What is your favorite part of the day and what is your favorite part of the job and why?
My favorite part of the day is later in the evening; I actually work best at night. My favorite part of the job is the team, the team, the team. Since I’m working remotely these days, recently, CMG’s Crafter of Strategic Communication Amy came to visit me in Ann Arbor, and we grabbed coffee and worked together. It was fun to catch up! I’d say we also got a lot of work done, especially since she helped me decide which type of cat/dog each team member was for our quarterly meeting presentation! It was a very productive afternoon, haha. All joking aside, I do really appreciate how flexible CMG has been with my hours and work schedule, since I am a full-time student at U of M.
